OVERSTATED

InTRODUCTION

Welcome - I’m so glad you’re here!

I have a lot to share about design, DIY, and styling — hence the name Overstated. It’s a playful take on the idea of sharing everything without holding back. No gatekeeping here, just plenty of tips, tricks, and design insights. And believe it or not, our designs aren’t all that overstated!

I’m Jenny, owner and interior designer at Jenny Corbett & Co Interiors. I’m excited to share my eye for design and help you navigate tricky spaces in your home or come up with ideas you might not have thought of yet.

For years, I’ve wanted to help more people than just those hiring me to redesign their spaces. Starting this blog felt like the perfect way to reach a larger audience. I know hiring an interior designer isn’t for everyone, so I’m reaching out to you here instead. On this blog and Instagram, I’ll open the doors to our home, sharing everything from napkin doodles to the final results of our renovations.

My husband, Luke, and I are passionate about what we do — to the point where we can never quite turn our minds off. We do just about everything ourselves, learning as we go, making mistakes, and changing our minds along the way. This isn’t a TV show, so our process is slow, but steady. Luke works full-time as an architect, while I’m running JC&C and balancing parenthood. Renovating our home is our “spare time” project!

We each bring something unique to the table. I’m the creative one, while Luke is more technically driven. Together, we make it work! I’ll admit, I have the champagne taste, and Luke’s the one making everything happen on a beer budget while still making it look high-end.

Living in a renovation project is no small feat — especially with Luke’s two kids and our two cats (who you’ll see often in photos — hope you like cats!). From landscaping and exterior details to everything inside, we’re working on it all. Our house was built in 1990, and it came with lots of dated details: off-white light switches, dirty-looking fixtures, and stained wood trim. But the bones of this house are solid, and for that, we’re grateful!

Some spaces take us ages to figure out, and we’ve gone through 15 layouts to get things right. No two houses are the same, and some projects take more time than others, even for us as professionals. This one has stumped us a few times! Making decisions for your own home can be tough, especially when it feels like trends are always changing. That’s where I hope to help!

On the blog, I’ll take you through the ups and downs of our renovation journey. I’ll share completed projects (even if they’re 95% done), and I’ll show you how we redecorate for different seasons and holidays. Expect tips and tricks on how you can make your own home look great, plus links to shop similar items for your space. I’ll also share as many before-and-after photos as I can — although I’ll admit, I’m not always great at remembering the before shots (and when I do, they’re terrible!).

Hopefully, I can convince Luke to share some “how-to” posts on the technical side of building — my main job during construction is to stay out of the way, not get injured, and help him find his tools!

I tend to overshare (probably more than I should), but hey, maybe we should have called this blog Oversharing with Jenny! 😄

Anyway, if you’re still reading, thank you for sticking around! This is meant to be a fun, lighthearted space for everyone. What I like and share may not be for everyone, and that’s totally okay. Just leave the negativity at the door — we’re all about positivity here! Stay awhile, and I hope you have fun with us!

-Jenny Corbett
